01 / Selected products

Built far enough to encounter the difficult parts.

These projects were developed independently of my professional responsibilities. They cover customer workflows, backend design, access boundaries and production operation.

01 / Deployed product

BarnPage

Visit BarnPage

BarnPage is a private workspace for riding barns. I designed and built the product from its data model and role boundaries through deployment and operation.

Product

Scheduling, barn membership, horse and rider records, private lesson media, progress feedback and trainer-reviewed AI workflows.

Engineering

TypeScript, Next.js, PostgreSQL, Prisma and Azure. A separate worker handles video processing, while scheduled workflows handle operational tasks.

Boundaries

Barn-scoped permissions, guardian links, consent controls and private media access are part of the product model rather than optional policy text.

AI use

AI output remains draft material for trainers. Riders and parents see feedback only after a qualified trainer reviews and publishes it.

02 / Open-source database systems

ThimbleDB

Visit ThimbleDB

ThimbleDB is an encrypted browser-first database for small, read-heavy web applications. Object storage is the durable source of truth, while an application-owned authority controls identity, access, key grants and writes.

Workload

Bounded per-user or per-tenant JSON data, keyed reads, occasional scans and warm browser caches. Relational and high-write workloads remain better suited to other databases.

Architecture

A TypeScript client keeps decoded objects in a bounded memory cache and device-key-encrypted objects in IndexedDB. Immutable encrypted objects and conditional head-record writes run on R2, S3, Azure Blob Storage or a local adapter.

Security and delivery

OIDC-backed sessions, non-extractable browser keys, scope-separated caches, explicit decoded-size limits, browser recovery tests and signed multi-architecture release artifacts.

Evidence and boundaries

Raw seven-region R2 evidence covers 3,808 operations. The published limits include slow cold reads and writes, plus poor suitability for globally contended collection writes.

02 / Professional impact

Software and platform work across Microsoft.

Public descriptions are limited to evidence that can be shared without disclosing proprietary systems.

Software systems

Global data processing and publishing workflows

Built software, telemetry, localisation-validation and workflow tooling for Microsoft Office engineering.

Data platform

Shared engineering evidence across cloud services

Architected telemetry ingestion, shared analytics models and reporting foundations using Azure Data Explorer, Azure Synapse and Microsoft Fabric.

Delivery automation

Consistent changes across high-availability services

Built deployment and operational automation across Azure services supporting global Microsoft product workflows.

03 / Experience

Software, data and reliability across Microsoft.

Roles span implementation, automation, service ownership and cross-product platform engineering.

Senior Customer Experience Engineer

Technical Lead, Reliability and Observability

Architecture for telemetry ingestion, shared analytics models, service-health reporting and AI-assisted analysis across Azure.

March 2025 - Present

Senior Site Reliability Engineer

Azure Data

Production engineering for data services used by millions, including diagnostic systems, service ownership and high-severity recovery.

September 2023 - March 2025

Senior Site Reliability Engineer

Localization as a Service

Microsoft Ireland

Progressed from intern to senior software engineer across data processing, telemetry, validation workflows and internal tools for Microsoft Office.

May 2014 - September 2019

04 / Technical scope

Software engineering breadth, backed by production depth.

Skills are listed where they are supported by professional or shipped project experience.

Backend and platform systems

C#/.NET, TypeScript, SQL/T-SQL, APIs, distributed systems, CI/CD and automation.

Product and service delivery

Data modelling, access boundaries, background workflows, deployment and iterative product operation.

Data and analytics

Azure Data Explorer, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Microsoft Fabric, Azure Synapse and telemetry platforms.

Production engineering

High availability, incident command, deep diagnosis, SLI/SLO design and operational readiness.

05 / Technical writing

Writing that exposes the operating model.

The whitepapers separate evidence, assumptions and unknowns, then provide practical templates for implementation and review.
